Driving Connection: HopSkipDrive Introduces their Spanish-Language App for Caregivers

A parent gets a text: "Your CareDriver is on the way." For Spanish-speaking families, that text might as well be blank. They don't know if the driver is five minutes out or fifty, whether their child has been picked up, or who to call if something feels wrong. That confusion doesn't stay contained. It turns into a call to the front office, then a scramble by school staff to translate and reassure, multiplied across every family a district serves who doesn't speak English.
That's why we're launching our Spanish-language app for caregivers: a fully translated experience across the app, ride notifications, and live phone support. Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers can now navigate daily schedules, track trips in real time, and stay informed in the language they trust.
An Automatic, Stress-Free Experience for Families
We built this expansion to work automatically, integrating directly with a user's existing device preferences so there is no extra setup required from families or district IT teams.
Spanish App Interface: The HopSkipDrive app automatically detects if a smartphone is set to Spanish upon its first launch and displays the complete app in Spanish, including onboarding resources, trip settings, and tracking details. Caregivers can also easily adjust their language preferences at any time from the app menu, saving the selection directly to their profile so it persists across devices and app reinstalls.
Spanish Ride Notifications: Once a language preference is established, both push alerts and text message (SMS) ride updates are delivered in Spanish. Caregivers will receive clear, timely milestones from the moment a driver is on the way ("CareDriver en camino") through final drop-off verification.
Spanish-Speaking Phone Support: If a family needs support during an active ride, they can call 844-HOP-SKIP and press 8 to connect directly with a Spanish-speaking support agent, providing real help in the language they are most comfortable using.
Bolstering Support for School Districts and Communities
School districts nationwide are under continuous pressure to serve increasingly diverse student populations, frequently navigating these shifting demographics without increases in internal staff or administrative budgets. When families are left to guess the meaning of a pickup text or wait for someone else to translate a critical alert, it places a heavy burden on front-office school staff.
By empowering parents to independently manage rides and track arrivals, this update streamlines operations. Furthermore, our Caregiver Great Start program, which proactively welcomes and walks new families through the application before the first day of school, is now offered in both English and Spanish, so families are guided through the app in their own language and front-office staff aren't fielding basic questions on day one. This creates an inclusive network where all families have an equal safety net.
“We designed this experience to work from the moment a caregiver opens the app, with no configuration, no extra steps for districts, and no added burden on IT teams,” said Corey McMahon, Chief Product & Technology Officer of HopSkipDrive. “For families, it should feel seamless. Spanish language support is the first step toward making that experience accessible to everyone.”
"When a caregiver can't figure out where their child's ride is because of a language barrier, that's not a usability issue, it's a student-outcome issue," said Joanna McFarland, Co-founder and CEO of HopSkipDrive. "Spanish is our first step toward an app for caregivers that truly serves the diverse communities our district partners rely on us to reach, and it won't be our last."
Looking Ahead to Greater Accessibility
The new language feature automatically reaches Spanish-speaking families across HopSkipDrive's national network of more than 14,500 schools and 2,000 school districts, government, and nonprofit partners.
Spanish represents our first language rollout beyond English, and it serves as the foundation for additional language expansions planned throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
Why This Matters for Districts
Districts are being asked to serve more linguistically diverse student populations every year, often without any increase in staff or budget. A Spanish-language HopSkipDrive app doesn't add to that burden, it removes a piece of it. When Spanish-speaking families can track a ride, get a notification, or reach support without translation help, front-office staff spend less time on calls that were never about transportation logistics in the first place. They were about a caregiver trying to understand what was happening to their child.
For districts, that shows up as fewer support tickets, fewer escalations, and a transportation partner that reaches every family in the community they serve, not just the ones who speak English. Spanish is the first language in this rollout. It won't be the last.
