Physical Contact Policy

All Community Members

HopSkipDrive’s stance on physical contact between users is that the majority of rides on the platform should result in zero physical contact between community members.

In the event of an emergency or for the safety of the ride and riders, it may be necessary for a CareDriver or Rider Assistant to make physical contact with a rider.

All users of the HopSkipDrive platform are expected to prioritize safety and abide by all applicable laws and regulations. Some examples of physical contact that could be considered necessary for the safety of the rider or the ride may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Physical contact that occurs naturally when a CareDriver or Rider Assistant buckles or rebuckles a rider into their car seat before the ride, during a ride, or unbuckles the rider upon arrival.

  • Physical contact such as holding a young rider's hand to safely cross the street, or while waiting for their authorized adult.

  • A non-speaking rider may initiate physical contact with a CareDriver in order to get their attention or ask for assistance.

CareDrivers

CareDrivers should never initiate physical contact with a rider unless there is an emergency situation that requires them to do so, or if the contact is directly related to their role as a CareDriver (i.e. buckling a child into their carseat/passenger seat or ensuring they safely cross the street).

Some examples of physical contact that could be considered necessary for the safety of the rider or the ride may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • A young rider reaching out to hold a CareDriver’s hand before crossing a street or in a crowd.

  • A rider may be non-speaking and reach for a CareDriver to request assistance.

  • A rider needs assistance getting in/or out of a vehicle due to lack of mobility or injury.

CareDrivers should immediately report any unwanted physical contact not related to an emergency made by a rider, Rider Assistant, or third party, to HopSkipDrive for investigation and appropriate action.

If an emergency occurred in which physical contact was deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the ride or Riders, please contact the HopSkipDrive live support team as soon as safely possible to provide a report.

Please refer to our zero-tolerance safety policy regarding harassment and assault of any type

Rider Assistants

Rider Assistants should never initiate physical contact with a rider unless there is an emergency situation or as a part of their responsibilities as a Rider Assistant.

If a rider initiates contact that a Rider Assistant deems reasonable and appropriate to provide, the Rider Assistant may choose to respond to the rider's request.

Examples of physical contact that may be necessary in the event of an emergency or to ensure the rider’s safety:

  • Assistance with buckling the rider into their seat before, during, or after the ride.

  • A young rider reaching out to hold the Rider Assistant’s hand before crossing a street or in a crowd.

  • A rider may be non-speaking and reach for a Rider Assistant to signal a request for support.

  • A rider needs assistance getting in or out of a vehicle due to lack of mobility or injury.

Please refer to our zero-tolerance safety policy regarding harassment and assault or any type.

Riders

As a rider, there should never be any reason to initiate physical contact with another rider or community member. If another rider attempts or succeeds in initiating any physical contact during a ride, the behavior should be reported to the CareDriver or to HopSkipDrive as soon as possible for investigation and appropriate action.

Please refer to our zero-tolerance safety policy regarding harassment and assault of any type.

In the event of an emergency or to ensure the rider’s safety or the safety of others in the ride, the CareDriver or Rider Assistant may need to make physical contact with a rider.
